Hey my friends!
As promised in my blog yesterday, I am going to discuss a little bit about estrogen dominance. Let me first put out my disclaimer…I do not have a medical degree. All of the information that I have acquired has been through research and consultations from physicians due to my having fibroids and endometriosis. I wanted to share some of this information to those that may be suffering with some of these medical conditions. If reading this blog can help in any way, then I am a happy camper.
What is Estrogen Dominance?
Estrogen dominance is the imbalance between the amount of estrogen and the amount of progesterone present in your body. And if you are wondering…yes men can have estrogen dominance as well. Although estrogen is known as the female hormone, a man’s body does produce estrogen. And women also produce testosterone. Both sexes need to produce a healthy balance of estrogen and testosterone for sexual growth and development.
One major symptom of estrogen dominance in men, is an enlarge breast. That condition is called gynecomastia. Infertility and erectile dysfunction are the other two conditions.
Estrogen dominance tends to effect women more often than it does in men.
Estrogen plays a significant role in reproduction and regulating ovulation. As I just mentioned, estrogen dominance tends to be more prevalent in women as you will can read in the chart and the list below:
- abdominal bloating
- mood swings
- anxiety
- swelling and tenderness in your breast
- fibrocystic lump(s) in your breast
- weight gain
- cold hands and feet
- hair loss
- irregular menstrual cycle
- frequent headaches
- trouble sleeping or feeling fatigue
- endometriosis
- uterine fibroids
- ovarian cysts
- heavy bleeding, including clotting
- infertility
- thyroid nodules
What Causes Estrogen Dominance?
I will not go into detail of the 9 causes of estrogen dominance. I will give you the link to a few articles you can read. However, I will let you know that the foods we eat can cause estrogen dominance. A lot of our produce are sprayed with pesticides. Animals that are not farm fed are given hormones. Why do you think a lot of girls are developing so fast? Think about it…you already produce your own hormones, so when you are eating these foods, you are essentially getting a double dose that you do not need.
Stress is another high estrogen producer. This is my major contributor to my fibroids. I just know it is because I do everything else they say to reduce estrogen, but I just cannot get a handle on my stress. I really need to learn to control my stress level. It is so easy to tell someone to not stress or not to worry about something because you cannot control it. I am naturally a worrier. I wake up stressed…ok that’s an exaggeration. However if you know me, you would say that statement is definitely true.
So how do we combat the causes of estrogen dominance…
How to Reduce Estrogen Dominance?
- Eat foods with labels: Organic, Farm-fed or free range
- Eliminate process foods
- Eat green leafy vegetables
- Eat Cauliflower
- Drink Organic Dandelion Root Tea
- Drink Nettle Tea
- Eliminate as much refined sugar as possible
- Drink water to flush out your system
- Eat fiber
- Cut down on the carbohydrates
I hope this article helps you out some. I personally did not know much about estrogen dominance until I did my research and asked my physicians lots of questions. Don’t be afraid to ask your physicians lots of questions. Also, it is quite alright to get second and third opinions.
Until tomorrow, goodnight my friends 💋
